Peonies

Peonies are scattered throughout the garden and provide a significant display in late spring and early summer. The familiar Peony x lactiflora cultivars like ‘Festiva Maxima’ are preceded by earlier flowering cultivars such as the Saunders hybrids, including some from Saunders’ daughter Sylvia. In recent years, we have been adding the intersectional hybrid ITOH varieties to the garden which we find more successful and easier to care for than traditional tree peonies.
